2017 Sensory Friendly Holiday Party – Saturday, December 16th
7th Annual Autistic Kids Rock Fundraiser
Seven years ago our founder, Lizette Hernandez, organized a karaoke fundraising event to raise money for the Autism Speaks walk. The event was so popular and Lizette raised so much money that she continued fundraising events for the following two years.
By the 4th year, Lizette was organizing the annual fundraiser to raise money for the Bronxchester Challenger League.
And for the last few years, the money raised at the Annual Autistic Kids Rock Fundraiser goes to D3 Sports & Recreation – the 501(c) 3 non-profit organization created by Lizette Hernandez.
The Bronx is one of the most under-served boroughs for children with autism and D3 Sports is the only organization dedicated to our children.
A large part of our past success is due to generous donations by family, friends and local businesses.
Our 7th Annual Autistic Kids Rock Fundraiser event will help pay for the 2017 baseball season.
Come eat, sing & be merry for an amazing cause!
There will be drink specials and a complimentary buffet from 7pm – 8-pm.
There will also be raffle prizes – so come with cash and be ready to buy a ticket (or 2)!
Past raffles have included Hamilton tickets (yes, that Hamilton), an iPad, Rao’s Gift Basket, a spa gift certificate, etc.
ALL money raised will benefit D3 Sports & Recreation.
You do NOT want to miss this event!
When: Saturday, April 1 at 7 PM – 12 AM
Where: Olivia’s Restuarant & Lounge @ 1854 Westchester Ave, Bronx, NY 10472-3016
Entrance is FREE but donations at that door will be appreciated | Must be 21 & over
D3 Sports is working hard to provide sensory friendly programs and events for children 4-21 years old with autism for free or at low costs. We have started our Hit a Grand Slam for Autism online fundraiser.
We have set a goal of $20,000. We have approximately 100 participants registered for our Sensory Art and Challenger Program. If each family joined the campaign and raised at least $100.00 we could raise $10,000.
You can join the campaign here: http://bit.ly/D3GrandSlam4Autism2019
Please donate and/or join our Hit a Grand Slam for Autism online fundraiser.
Whoever raises the most money will be honored at our Challenger Opening Day on April 6th, 2019!
Unable to donate, but still want to help? Please share this post and help spread the word about the work we’re doing at D3 Sports & Recreation!

D3 Sports introduces a NEW Sensory Art program for kids with autism in The Bronx!
Last month CEO & Founder of D3 Sports, Lizette Hernandez and Nellie Escalante were featured on Bronx Net to talk about the upcoming Sensory Art Program.
Lizette wanted to create a sensory art program for several reasons. Having a son with autism, she recognizes and encourages his love for art. She thought an art program would be a way to feed that interest and also help other children with their sensory needs by using different art techniques. Lizette also wanted to create a place where parents/siblings can learn techniques that they can utilize at home with their children.
The Sensory Art Program will be led by Nellie Escalante.
Nellie Escalante is a museum educator/teaching artist at the Studio Museum in Harlem and for the not for profit, Arts & Minds. Recently, Nellie has been specializing in early childhood learners and people with disabilities. She has partnered with various schools to deliver art experiences associated with exhibitions at the Studio Museum in Harlem. She is also the lead educator for the Lil Studios pre-school program at the museum.
Nellie is the Program Coordinator and Educator for Arts & Minds, a non profit organization offering art experiences for people living with dementia and their caregivers.
When she is not at the museum, Nellie is designing wearable art, often reconstructing existing garments, and selling her creations online and in select artisan fairs in New York City with PRIDA, the Puerto Rican artist collective she belongs to. You can find her blogging about her creations, and special needs motherhood at www.nellescalante.com.
